Spain’s Nuria Iturrioz came from behind to claim victory at the Houston Championship, finishing on 13 under par, two shots clear of England’s Charley Hull and fellow Spaniard Carlota Ciganda.
Iturrioz, 29, birdied three of the last five holes at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland to card a four-under 68, securing her fifth European Tour title. Despite trailing Hull and Ciganda earlier in the final round, she remained composed under pressure to hold onto the lead.
Hull, world number 10, made a strong charge with a back-nine 67, narrowing the gap to just one shot at one stage. The English star has now finished runner-up in consecutive tournaments, but she was pleased with her performance following an ankle ligament injury in August.
“I played A1 golf all day,” Hull said. “Especially coming back from my injury, I didn’t expect to play this well, so I’m happy with the result.”
Ciganda, the overnight leader, finished with a 71, while other notable performances included Singapore’s Tan at -10 and France’s Boutier, Delacour, and Nadaud at -9.
