Pierre Gasly Extends Alpine F1 Contract Until 2028
Pierre Gasly has committed his long-term future to Alpine after signing a contract extension that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2028 Formula 1 season. The 29-year-old French driver, a one-time race winner and consistent points scorer, joined the Renault-owned outfit in 2023 and has already delivered two podium finishes.
The extension is seen as a major show of confidence from Alpine’s executive director Flavio Briatore, who rejoined the team after Gasly had already signed his original deal. Briatore praised Gasly’s professionalism and talent, describing him as a vital asset during a challenging period for the team. “We are preparing for the new era of Formula 1 in 2026, and having Pierre confirmed as our lead driver is a significant step for our future,” Briatore said. “His attitude, dedication, and ability have impressed me greatly, and we are excited to continue building this project together.”
Gasly, who famously won the 2020 Italian Grand Prix while racing for AlphaTauri, expressed his pride in driving for a French manufacturer. “I’m thrilled to commit my long-term future to Alpine,” Gasly said. “Representing a French brand means a lot to me, and since joining in 2023, I’ve always believed this is the right place for my career moving forward.”
While Gasly’s future is now secure, Alpine’s second seat remains undecided beyond 2025. Argentine driver Franco Colapinto has been filling the role since May’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, after Jack Doohan was moved back to a reserve position following six races. However, Alpine are still evaluating their long-term options, particularly after potential targets Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez committed to Cadillac’s new F1 project.
Gasly’s extension marks a clear commitment from Alpine to stability as they prepare for Formula 1’s major regulation changes in 2026. The Frenchman’s consistency and leadership are expected to play a central role in the team’s ambitions to climb back into regular podium contention.
For fans, this announcement underlines Alpine’s determination to keep building for the future. With Gasly confirmed, attention will now turn to who will line up alongside him as the team looks ahead to the next era of Formula 1.
