Jordan Cox has earned a spot in England’s T20 squad for the upcoming three-match series against Ireland after his standout performances in The Hundred. The 24-year-old batter, who topped the scoring charts with 367 runs and was named Most Valuable Player as Oval Invincibles clinched a third straight title, will join the team in Dublin later this month.
Cox, who has already featured in three ODIs and two T20s for England, was initially left out of the squads for the ongoing series against South Africa and Ireland. His recall comes despite a string of injury setbacks that previously denied him a Test debut.
With England’s senior multi-format players resting ahead of the Ashes, the side will be captained by 21-year-old Jacob Bethell, set to become the youngest men’s international skipper for England. Marcus Trescothick will lead the coaching staff in Brendon McCullum’s absence.
The T20 series against Ireland is scheduled for 17, 19 and 21 September, all in Dublin.
