Australia’s Asfoora surged clear to win the Nunthorpe Stakes on day three of the Ebor meeting at York.
The seven-year-old mare, trained by Henry Dwyer and ridden by champion jockey Oisin Murphy, followed the early pace set by Karl Burke’s Night Raider.
With just over a furlong to go, Asfoora powered away to finish a length and a quarter clear of Kevin Ryan’s 100-1 outsider Ain’t Nobody and William Knight’s Frost At Dawn, who was third. Night Raider took fourth.
“It was perfect. She got a nice run [into the race] from Night Raider and I allowed her to go forward,” Murphy told ITV Racing.
“She travelled very well and the track is quite quick which suits her. She was electric.”
It is the second top-level victory for Asfoora, who also triumphed in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot last year.
