Hampshire Extend Kyle Abbott’s Contract Through 2026
Hampshire have confirmed that veteran seam bowler Kyle Abbott has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026 season.
The 38-year-old former South Africa international has been a mainstay for Hampshire, taking 464 wickets in 113 first-class matches at an impressive average of 20.05. This season alone, Abbott has already claimed 42 wickets in 19 County Championship games, averaging 21.52 per wicket, highlighting his continued consistency and value to the squad.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Abbott told the Hampshire website: “Hampshire gave me a huge opportunity to start over again and contribute to a winning cause, trying to win a championship and get the club into a better place. I’m proud to have achieved that. It’s taken a lot of hard work from not only myself, but everyone around me.”
Despite his numerous achievements, Abbott is still motivated by unfinished business at Hampshire. “There are still things I’d like to achieve at the club, a One Day [Cup] trophy in particular after losing out in the final at Lord’s in 2019. I feel like I’ve got some unfinished business there,” he added.
Abbott’s extension ensures Hampshire retain one of their most experienced and reliable bowlers, providing a strong foundation as the club continues its pursuit of silverware in domestic competitions. His leadership and expertise will also be invaluable for mentoring younger players in the squad.
