Salford Red Devils assistant coach Kurt Haggerty has left the beleaguered Super League club by mutual consent.

Haggerty joined in 2022 and wasdue to take over from current boss Paul Rowleyas head coach for 2026, with Rowley stepping into a director of rugby role.

He has worked alongside Rowley at Leigh as a player as well as Toronto Wolfpack as a coach but, after a challenging season both on and off the field, he has decided to step aside.

Salford are bottom of the Super League table and have faced financial problems and a number of players leaving this campaign.

“I wish nothing but the best for everybody involved at the Red Devils and hope the current situation is resolved and the club finally has a future of stability,”he said.,external

“The public nature of the situation and uncertainty of my future as the head coach of the club moving forward has become incredibly unbearable for me and my family. This ultimately led to my decision to leave the club.

“To the Salford fans, standing by a team and club in such adverse times with a team they cannot fully call their own is one of the most admirable things I have seen in rugby league.

“I would like to thank Paul King, Paul Rowley and every staff member I have had the pleasure to work alongside the past four years.”

Haggerty’s exit comes just two days before Salford are due to appear in the High Court after a previous hearing over a winding-up petitionwas adjourned.
